Consider this an invitation to an informal fun run in downtown Alpharetta, to be called the First Annual Holly Jolly Mistletoe Run. It will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m., course beginning at 48 Roswell St., the site of Cobblestone Rose, a boutique, Trinity Lifestyles Management, LLC. and Perception 5. (Plenty of parking behind the building).
There will be three classes of exercise as follows:
· Walkers (Approximately 1.5 miles)
· Runners (1.5 mile and 5.5 mile run)
· Bicyclists (10 mile ride)
Requirements are as follows:
· Show up.
· Wear Christmas clothing of some type (i.e. hats, bells on shoes, etc.)
· Bring your family, closest friends and even pets, as appropriate
There will be three categories of prizes:
· The Christmas Cheer - for the most likeable, cheerful person
· The Endormorphins – for the fastest times in each class (Honor System Prevails)
· The Rudolf – for the best Christmas outfit
At the site, maps will be given for the course. We will end up at Pure Taqueria, 103 Roswell St., Alpharetta’s latest hip restaurant, recently featured in Creative Loafing.
It is the hope that this will become an annual event and that many new relationships will be made, ultimately leading to an annual qualifying marathon. This race, however, will always be informal, fun and an opportunity to relax with good people and cheer.
This underground, unofficial event may have to become official for the following reasons:
· Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus have requested an audience (Hint – Bring the children; the Honored Claus’s will be at Pure Taqueria at 12:00 p.m.)
· We have been asked by numerous individuals that we sponsor an organization. It seems obvious to sponsor one of Alpharetta’s own, Second Wind Dreams www.secondwind.org. Second Wind Dreams was recently featured on Three Wishes, hosted by Amy Grant. The organization grants wishes (“dreams”) to senior adults living in nursing homes and assisted living communities. Without a doubt, many lives have been blessed by their work. Visit their website to learn about individual dreams at age 90+ to ride Harley motorcycles, swim with the dolphins, climb mountains, ride rollercoasters, etc.
We will collect donations at Pure Taqueria or you can send a donation direct to Second Wind Dreams at the address on their web site.
More scoop:
· Everyone participates at their own risk.
· We will provide long sleeve T-shirts for the first 75 runners. Pure Taqueria will also be giving out additional shirts at the restaurant.
· We will have several prizes.
· We will have volunteers; however, please keep in mind that this run was announced less than two weeks ago. It will be fun, relaxing and most likely disorganized.
· Don’t forget that costumes, bells on shoes, hats and colorful outfits are part of the tradition we are starting.
Libations including coffee, hot chocolate, fluids and lunch ("on your own") will be available at the finish line (Pure Taqueria) with prizes and surprises!.
