The 8th Annual Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic (SGWBC) is one of the most nostalgic baseball experiences in the country. The tournament is a joint effort between John Smoltz-Atlanta Braves Pitcher and Marquis Grissom-San Francisco Giants Outfielder. The SGWBC gives youth amateur baseball and softball teams from across the nation the opportunity to play like the pros with wood bats.

Over 200 teams will converge on Metro Atlanta for this 8th annual event to compete for the title of Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic Champion. The Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic is a USSSA (Baseball) and an ISA (Fast Pitch Softball) tournament. All tournament proceeds benefit Health Alliance Services, a non-profit organization which provides underprivileged youth the opportunity to participate in baseball and softball activities in Metro Atlanta. This awesome four day event started Memorial Day Weekend in 1999 at six (6) Fulton County park locations. With great success this national phenomenon now produces teams from eleven (11) different states with its World Series atmosphere now expanding to over 200 teams traveling from states as far as California, New York, Kentucky and Michigan.

The Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic will be facilitated by HRM Sports & Consulting in conjunction with Health Alliance Services, a non-profit organization that implements a variety of community-focused programs designed to train, educate and mentor youth.

On Friday May 26, 2006 there will be a Coaches’ Welcome Luncheon at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel.

Tournament play will begin on Friday evening, culminating with the Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic Championship Series on Monday Memorial Day at Old National Park, College Park Georgia.
