As in traditional soccer, Power Soccer requires strategy, precise plays, and impeccable teamwork; yet this brand new form of the game goes one step further – the players do not have use of their legs. This dynamic new way to play the game of soccer is sweeping the country and the globe.

The 2006 Power Soccer Summit is slated for July 16-25, 2006, with athletes and coaches in Atlanta from 10 countries- Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, England, France, Japan, Korea, Portugal, and the US. Delegates will work to refine a standard set of rules for international play, in hopes of having 'Powerchair Football' (the international name for Power Soccer) recognized at the Paralympics in 2012.

An international tournament showcasing all 10 teams will be open to spectators on Saturday, July 22 (10:30-5:30) and Sunday, July 23 (9:00-4:00) at the Suwanee Sports Academy, 3640 Burnette Road, Suwanee, 30024. For information regarding the international Summit, contact the Summit host, the Fernando Foundation, at 770.622.2121 x246 or ksalewski@feranandofoundation.org.

The support of the Fernando Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Jim and Nancy Dornan of Alpharetta, Georgia, has fueled the U.S. Power Soccer Association (USPSA) to fund more than 30 teams from coast to coast and is the driving force in catapulting the sport into the international arena.

Power Soccer has made a positive impact on hundreds of lives, offering confidence and camaraderie to disabled around the country and the world.

David Ruelas, Director of Operations at the Fernando Foundation and Team Manager of the USPSA, says, "Not only are we providing athletic opportunities for people in the disabled community, but we are also changing lives for the better. That is why the Fernando Foundation exists."
