Todd Tibbetts, Republican candidate for the District #27 Senate Seat speaks out on the Republican fight between the Forsyth County School Board and Republican Executive Committee.
As a parent and a Forsyth taxpayer, I'm concerned about some of the leaders in the majority party being so easy going and agreeable when it comes to the issue of tax increases and the Forsyth school system. While my neighbors and friends throughout Forsyth County work hard to meet tightening family budgets, their tax assessments were adjusted upward substantially to pay for increased spending by the school board. I don't think that's right.
Our taxes have gone up substantially and the only statement that our state representative can make is he doesn't like the tone of the Forsyth Republican Executive Committee letter and he disapproves of the committee's message. With all due respect, Representative Murphy, I don't like political leaders saying they've cut my taxes when they actually raised them. There was a time when Republicans were against tax increases. I'm glad the Forsyth County Republican Partys Executive Committee had the boldness to draw a line in the sand when it comes to unfair taxation.
I am in favor of a property tax assessment freeze. The freeze would give homeowners with children some control in maintaining a consistent family budget. A freeze would allow our senior citizens on fixed incomes the security of knowing they won't be forced to finance continued increases in government spending.
