Open Letter to Commissioner Brian Tam

It's rather ironic that on the day I read the article on Tam's Backstage, I also get my first correspondence from my commission representative. I do hope the backstage is more successful than "my" commissioner.

In nearly two years on the commission, I have never heard from him although I have written and called his office several times. There is absolutely no response. Today he writes to ask that we not support Mr Laughinghouse as commissioner with the unwritten assumption that Mr Conway will be reelected and together they will maintain their majority. A majority of ignoring the people whom they are elected to serve.

In the two years of service, I have seen nothing that Mr. Tam has initiated on his own. He appears to be a rubber stamp of Mr. Conway. Mr. Tam, what will you do when you are in the minority? Will you begin to vote the way my district elected you to vote? Will you begin to realize that we are tired of roads and lack of infrastructure while you continue to approve additional buildings according to the desires of the builders and developers?

We deserve a board of commissioners who is not afraid to represent the people not just developers and builders who are more interested in making big dollars at the expense of the safety of us as residents of Forsyth County. When I spoke to you at the Windemere debate, I felt you had no real interest in getting to know me or my concerns.

You seem to imply in your letter that you may be considering running for reelection. I worked on your campaign the last time but would work on any other campaign in the next election cycle based on your lack of a record as our present commissioner.

Based on you response to the people of your district, I strongly urge the residents of the 24th precinct and of Forsyth County to ignore your letter and vote for those candidates who will listen to the desires of the people whom they are elected to serve.

Sincerely,
Watson L. Swope
