It's Not About Water. It's About Being Fair

To City of Cumming and Forsyth County Residents

Suppose the County declared, “We the county own the fire trucks and stations, and from now on city residents have to pay double for fire protection !! We would all agree that it would be grossly unfair (whether illegal or not) and we would recall the officials responsible.

Now let’s look briefly to see if the current water arrangement between the city and the county is fair:

  • The city charges the county $2.29 for finished water while the county finishes its own water for $.80. A 3X price difference.
  • Families in the city pay about ½ the “wholesale price” the county pays to the city
  • For 6,000 gallons per month, a city family pays $1.25 per 1,000 gallons, while a county supplied family pays $3.75 per 1,000 gallons. A 3X price difference.

Recently, we were concerned about price gouging when gas prices went up 20% to $3.00 a gallon. What do we term the triple water pricing the county residents must pay? What do we think about county residents paying extra so city residents can pay less for their water? Citizens of both the city and the county, is this fair?

Let us thank Charlie Laughinghouse, Dave Richard and Jim Harrell for saying NO to a very unfair finished water arrangement between the city and the county.

And for those of you who support Conway’s and Amos’ position to continue/extend the city/county water deal, you need to ask Jack and Pete why they consider it fair if one group pays three times as much as the other.
