An interesting opinion piece was posted by Chris Goldston on Cumminghome.com today. Chris is the Secretary of Forsyth County Republicans and had this to say about our “All Republican” elected School Board:
"It is particularly offensive that the radical change in school times was made without any research or input from the parents and taxpayers of this county. The current Board of Education members, while claiming to be Republicans, are operating contrary to their party’s platform of open, honest government by shutting out the people. Doubters should just try to speak to the Board of Education. The bureaucratic mess you must endure will prove that your voice is neither welcomed nor desired. Make no mistake – these policies are not supported by the local Republican Party leadership (nor [sic] any other level of Republican Party leadership)."
While some of that sounds familiar, I had to wonder if Chris and the entire local Republican delegation (he did say none of them supported it), are calling for the School Board members to resign from the Republican Party? It is not everyday you have an officer of the local party, call elected officials of the same party, a bunch of phonies.
Republicans don’t get to have it both ways.
And excuse us as we chortle over the “party’s platform of open, honest government” comments. This from the Republican Party that passed unprecedented secrecy laws at the state legislature this last session. I wonder if Chris thinks representatives Murphy and Knox are Republican frauds for voting in favor of closed government.
Chris, there is a party that believes in involving parents and teachers in the educational process. There is a party that believes in open government. It’s called the “Democratic Party”.
We appreciate your contribution to our efforts.
