A Reader Responds To "New Board Struggles to Find Common Ground" Article

Below is a letter from a reader. Immediately following is the response from Steve Carter, author of the article in question.

I would like to express a concern regarding the tone of your "news" articles. It is a commonly known fact that you, Steve Carter, are the son-in-law of Jack Laughinghouse. I therefore expect that your opinions are somewhat biased towards Laughinghouse and Richard.

I would however think that as operator of a news and information site, you would try to be a little more objective with your writing. If you want to express an opinion, isn't that opinion better served in your commentary section? Obviously biased articles do not belong on the front page of your site.

You are a businessman. I trust you understand the importance of objectivity to your readers (and perhaps more importantly your advertisers). Why risk offending a large proportion of your readers to push your father-in-law's political agenda?

Thank you for your time,

Lance McDonald

Response to Mr. McDonald from Steve Carter:

I appreciate your feedback. One of the things I have tried very hard to do is get better participation from all sides of the issues. Unfourtunatley this publication does not have the budget to chase down opinions from everyone, but I have always been more than willing to publish any side of any argument. The only rule is that we remain civil and neighborly about the discussion.

If you see any particular article as biased, please feel free to send me a rebuttal and with your permission I will publish it word for word. This is something you will NOT get anywhere else. (If you like I will be happy to publish this comment attached to the article you take issue with)

You are correct, I am related to "Charles" Laughinghouse. It would be incorrect, however, to assume that this has any bearing on the editorial content of this site. Feel free to challenge me if you feel otherwise, or better yet, send a rebuttal and I will happily publish it.

Steve
