Shorter College will be included in the 2007 Colleges of Distinction guidebook, a national publication of Student Horizons, Inc.
Shorter was one of only eight Georgia institutions and 300 schools nationally to receive this recognition based on “student engagement in the educational process, great teaching, vibrant learning communities and successful outcomes,” as explained in a letter by Wes Creel, Student Horizons, Inc. president.
The guidebook was developed “to help high school students and their parents find a college that will be the right fit for their individual personalities and career objectives,” continued Creel.
Other College of Distinction designees that will also appear in the guidebook include Sewanee, Rhodes College, Centre College, Millsaps College, Hendrix College, Transylvania University, Rollins College, Emory & Henry College, Hampton Sydney College, Randolph Macon College, Hollins University, and Sweet Briar College. Other selected institutions in Georgia are Agnes Scott College, Berry College, Georgia College & State University, LaGrange College, Morehouse College, Oglethorpe University, and Spelman College.
More than 100,000 guidebooks will be distributed nationally that feature a two-page profile of each College of Distinction. Additionally, the College Parents of America and the Center for Student Opportunity plan to promote the guidebook to their members and constituents.
