The Rome City Commission regretfully announces the resignation of Duane Reid from his post effective immediately.  Mr. Reid has accepted a position in Florida and will be leaving the City before the end of his appointed term.

"This news saddens the Commission," Rome Mayor Ronnie Wallace said.  "Duane and his family have been an intergral and important part of the City since their arrival several years ago. He has been a terrific addition to the commission and has served this community well and we as a commission will miss his leadership and this community will miss him, Wanda and the children and their dedication. The Rome City Commission wishes him the very best and realize that Florida is gaining a huge asset."

Reid was appointed to the City Commission after the resignation of Katie Dempsey in 2006.  The City charter provides that the Commission may appoint someone to fill the unexpired term until the next general election which is in November. The Commission may also choose not to appoint and in effect work with 8 commission members.  The Rome City Commission will debate this during the caucus meeting on March 5, 2007.
