After Monday’s pretrial hearings in the case of Richard Scott Harper, August 2007 is set to begin Harper’s murder trial.

Scott Harper and Michelle Reynolds face the death penalty for the murder of Thad Reynolds which occurred in July 2004.

Michelle Reynolds is accused of conspiring with Harper to kill her husband but no trial date has been set for Reynolds.

Christopher Adams and Chris Twyman who are defending Harper want to present 4 motions behind closed doors; a change of venue motion was an apparent reference made by Twyman.

If made public, both defendants’ representatives say the evidence they wish to present on their motions would be highly prejudicial and would influence the jury pool.

Keeping certain documents secret has been agreed upon by the district attorney’s office.

In addition to being allowed to wear civilian clothes, Harpers attorneys have asked that their clients be permitted to appear without shackles and a stun belt. Another motion asked that law enforcement be out of uniform during the trial.Until it is discussed with Sheriff Tim Burkhalter who provides security to the court, this ruling has been delayed
