A 66 year-old Forsyth County man was killed today when he was struck by a vehicle as he walked along Shady Grove Road.

The victim, identified as Gary Hugh Joiner of a Sourwood Drive address, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Cpl. Chris Shelton, Joiner was walking on the westbound shoulder of the roadway and darted into the path of a southbound Isuzu Rodeo. The Isuzu struck Joiner, knocking him into a private driveway some 37 feet from the point of impact.

The Isuzu was driven by Marina Leigh Lankford, 18, of Heard Road in Cumming.

No charges have been filed pending completion of an investigation into the accident.

The accident occurred at noon.
