A geologist says that recently closed road in Forsyth County, Ronald Reagan Boulevard, is destined to become a major landslide. Just a week ago, the road began to crack. Now that crack is growing, and several homes and a million gallon water tank are in its path. Some parts of the continually growing crack are up to six feet in width.
Some have speculated that a nearby quarry has caused the damage, and geologists are saying that the land is shifting and will cause a landslide in the area. This would be devastating, as the landslide would pull everything in its path into the massive hole in the quarry -- including several homes, businesses and the water tower.
Water service is being diverted to another water line to prepare for the loss of the water tower. According to County Manager, Jeff Quesenberry, customers will face water pressure issues during this necessary transition.
