After diligence on the part of Principal Beth Kieffer to evacuate Vickery Creek Elementary this morning after several teachers and the school's head custodian smelled gas, the Forsyth County Fire Department located the leak, shut off gas to the building and aired it out completely before allowing students and staff to return.
The county facilities department repaired a regulator on a heater outside a classroom, and students were able to return to the elementary school from Vickery Creek Middle around 8:30 this morning.
The evacuation and return to school went smoothly and Principal Kieffer thanked staff, parents and students for their cooperation. And a special thanks was delivered to Vickery Creek Middle School for welcoming students to their building during the evacuation.
