When we began our campaign for Secretary of State over a year ago, I knew we must be prepared for a marathon rather than a sprint. Our campaign staff, finance committee, contributors, and grassroots supporters have been amazing. We’ve run stronger and smarter than our opponents, keeping our eyes focussed on the finish line but also keeping in mind that we must take this race one step at a time.

Not only have we already beaten our opponents on the issues that matter most to mainstream conservative voters; but now we have greatly outdistanced them in campaign fundraising, as well. On Monday, candidates filed their campaign finance disclosure reports, proving that we have out-raised Fulton County Commissioner Karen Handel by over $200,000 over the last three months and close to $350,000 since this campaign began – despite our having been prohibited from raising campaign funds for three months during the 2006 legislative session!

I am also the only candidate showing diversity both in terms of numbers of contributors and geographic distribution of those givers, particularly in the more conservative out-state areas where Georgia statewide elections are traditionally decided.

With your help, we have run a strong race that we can be proud of. Now we are in the home stretch and we will need some extra strength to carry us through the finish line with a win next Tuesday.
