"Save Lanier Golf Course", an organization dedicated to preserving Lanier Golf Club and preventing a planned development on the property, drew a crowd of approximately 150 people in an organizational meeting Thursday night.

The group encouraged participants to sign petitions, contact commissioners, and write letters to prevent a potential rezoning of the property to allow the course to be permanently closed and replaced with a major housing development.

The property is currently listed on the Forsyth County Comprehensive land use plan as an "Activity Center" which would indicate a propensity by the county commission to approve rezoning the property for other uses.

No current commissioners were in attendance, due to the meetings conflict with the commission meeting. Commissioners Laughinghouse (District 1) and Richard (District 4) were mentioned as 2 commissioners who have already expressed support of the organizations cause. Commisson candidate Jim Harrell was in attendance, and also expressed his support.

The property is located in District 5. "Were still attempting to get to our District 5 Commissioner" Said Gerry Sullivan, president of the organization.
