District 5 Commissioner Linda Ledbetter was not dissapointed with the turnout for her open meeting to hear citizen's concerns over the planned redevelopment of Lanier Golf Course. The Commission boardroom was filled to capacity with concerned citizens wearing green shirts in support of the effort to save the 30 year-old golf course from being rezoned and converted into a high density residential development.

Commissioner Ledbetter said few words herself, as meeting moderator Mary Helen McGruder explained that it would be inappropriate for the elected offical to express opinions or state a position prior to voting on the issue.
"I'm going to sit down and listen," Ledbetter stated, and she received quite an ear-full from golf course residents, nearby residents and concerned citizens.
Currently the Golf Course is under contract for sale pending a rezoning of the land from agricultural to an "Activity Center." Activity Center is the current designation on the Forsyth County master land use plan, which would allow for any of a number of high density residential possibilities. No rezoning application has been submitted as of this point.
Planning commission representative and meeting moderator Mary Helen McGruder explained the rezoning process to the audience, assuring the group that this will be a long process, and will include serveral additional opportunities to present a case for or against the application.
All five current county commissioners were in attendance.
