Karen Handel, conservative Republican candidate for Secretary of State, said today “I commend U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell for the amendment he offered to the federal immigration bill requiring a photo ID to vote in U.S. elections. Our elections should be protected to ensure that only U.S. citizens are voting.”

“A key component of my comprehensive plan to reform Georgia elections is ensuring that only legal Georgia citizens are casting ballots. While the Georgia photo ID law is a good first step, there is more we can do to protect our elections process. Our voter rolls should be purged of immigrants, both legal and illegal, who are not eligible to vote. I have also proposed that proof of citizenship be required by everyone registering to vote in Georgia. I am the only candidate in the race for Secretary of State who has been addressing this issue and offered a solution to this problem.” Handel added.

Karen Handel announced her BASICs plan on April 17th and remains the only candidate for Secretary of State to offer detailed solutions for elections reform in Georgia. The complete plan is available at www.karenhandel.com
