Emily Lewy, a Dahlonega attorney, is collecting signatures to qualify as an Independent candidate to challenge incumbent Chip Pearson. Pearson is currently running unopposed for State Senate District 51 that includes the northern part of Forsyth County.

In order to be included on the ballot for the November election, Lewy must collect the signatures of 4,273 registered voters on a petition that must be submitted to the Secretary of State by July 10.
