The 11th annual Rising Star Luncheon honors elementary and middle school students who have been selected and awarded for having made major improvement over the school year in areas such as academics, behavior or attendance, or improvement in English language skills. This year's event happens on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Cumming Baptist Church Family Life Center on Tribble Gap Road.
Co-sponsored by Forsyth County Schools, Forsyth County Community Connection and the Forsyth County United Way, this special luncheon is for students who have really strived to improve in a variety of ways and who may not have received honors or recognition before.
Each Forsyth County elementary school picks one student per grade level for 'Rising Star,' and middle schools can select up to to 12 students, since they have various teams as part of the middle school curriculum. Parents of these stars are invited to come see their children receive special awards, which consist of a t-shirt, certificate and Polaroid picture. A pizza luncheon is provided to these winning students as a celebration for all their hard work.
