The delay of Little Mill will not affect the district lines work, other than the lines that are approved by the BOE on Feb. 16th for Little Mill...
On Thursday, January 19, 2005, the Forsyth County Board of Education voted to delay the opening of Little Mill Middle School by one year. The school was originally scheduled to open in August 2006 and is now scheduled to open in August 2007. Little Mill Middle is located in east Forsyth County on Little Mill Road.
The delay of Little Mill will not affect the district lines work, other than the lines that are approved by the Board of Education on February 16 for Little Mill, which will go in effect 2007-08, instead of 2006-07. Additionally, the Board approved a personnel amendment to delay the placement of Principal Connie McCrary to Little Mill until the 2007-08 school year. Mrs. McCrary will remain principal of Vickery Creek Middle School for the 2006-07 school year.
This decision was made at this time by the Board because of its crucial timing in drawing new attendance lines, staffing schools for next school year and budgeting for the upcoming school year.
This is not the first delay in school opening that the Board of Education has approved. In recent history, the opening of Shiloh Point was changed from a December opening to a August opening of the following year to not divide students between different buildings for one school year, while Riverwatch Middle was delayed a year due to lack of state funds and Sharon Elementary was delayed by one semester due to construction delays.
