The Sawnee Cultural Arts Center announced today that its 2005 Arts Season includes a classic films program. The American Classics Movie Series will open with a screening of An Affair to Remember, a 1957 release starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, on Saturday, January 29 at 8:00pm.
The American Classics Movie Series was launched in response to community requests for more programming for adults and senior citizens. The Sawnee Cultural Arts Center solicited suggestions for movies from patrons and will also screen Singin’ in the Rain (1951), Casablanca (1943) and Miracle on 34th Street (1947) later this year.
An Affair to Remember is a poignant and humorous love story about a handsome man and a nightclub singer who meet on an ocean liner headed for New York. Though they are both engaged to someone else, they fall deeply in love and vow to meet six months later at the top of the Empire State Building. A tragic accident prevents their meeting and their future takes an emotional and uncertain turn.
