Music is created by combining notes, both the high and low ones…sometimes life has a way of playing out the same way. Local singer and songwriter Kristie Salerno Kent, 32, always dreamed of being on stage and performing the music she loved -- and began performing at age seven; she just never dreamed of being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Now, Kristie is creating music and inspiration in more ways than she could have imagined.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, progressive disease of the central nervous system that affects an estimated 400,000 Americans, according to the National MS Society. For Kristie Salerno Kent, it was a life changing diagnosis. The once graceful and coordinated singer and dancer barely could walk a straight line or read her music. This was unacceptable to Kristie who decided to put all her energy into finding a way to manage her disease, and she found great doctors and medicine to help her along the way.
Today, Kristie is busy touring the country…performing her own songs and speaking about multiple sclerosis. Her debut CD, a contemporary pop collection with lots of soul, will be released this winter and already the single “I Believe” has a strong fan base, and it hasn't even been released in stores yet. (Look for it this spring).
In addition, Kristie has found new inspiration by helping other MS patients and by taking on the role as an MS LifeLines Ambassador to help educate and motivate others like her. MS LifeLines™ is a free resource sponsored by Serono and Pfizer, developed with the guidance of people with MS – for people with MS. More information is available at www.MSLifeLines.com and by calling 1-877-447-3243.
Raised in Fayetteville, New York, Kristie Salerno Kent currently resides in Cumming with her husband. For more information on Kristie, her music and her work as MS Lifelines Ambassador, please visit www.kristiesalernokent.com.
