Vickery Creek Middle School Does It Again!

For the fourth time in a six years, Vickery Creek Middle School Mathletes captured the 1st Place Team Title at this year's MathCounts Lanier Chapter academic competition at the University of Georgia on February 20, 2006. The students competed against 11 other schools in the regional, including South and North middle schools also of Forsyth County. This year's team comprised of 8th graders Daniel Shaw, Hilary Keller, Josh Ryan and Golesthan Azimi and VCMS had a fifth student added because of high scores, Courtney Macer. Daniel Shaw picked up the 1st Place Trophy for the Individual Competition. Their 1st place victory led them straight to the state level competition in Atlanta on March 24, 2006.

MathCounts is an academic competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the CNA insurance companies and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The national coaching and competition program is designed to stimulate sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students' interest and achievement. It prepares teams of four students to compete in math competition at local, regional and state levels. The Georgia Society of Professional Engineers hosts the MathCounts Georgia competitions with financial support from both corporate and individual contributors. This year Papa Johns provided meals for students and coaches.
