The City of Rome began a State mandated backflow prevention program for residential customers last December. This program is currently more than 90% complete.

One effect of this program is the need for each customer's plumbing system to be pretected by a thermal expansion relief device, such as a relief valve or an expansion tank. The purchase and installation of this protective device on private plumbing systems is the responsibility of the individual residence owner; however, the City of Rome made the decision to assist Rome's water customers.

As a courtesy to its citizens, the City provided a thermal expansion relief valve to those cutomers in need of this device. Each of these devices has been delivered, even though all meters are have not been changed out at this time. If you do not have a device, please contact the Water and Sewer Department at 706-236-4560.

The thermal expansion relief valve provided by the City belongs to each customer. This device was provided as a one time courtesy and any thermal expasion problems experienced will be the owner's responsibility to correct.

If the thermal expansion relief valve provided by the City remains on an outside faucet, be certain that the faucet valve is open and protected from freezing weather. Should you have any questions regarding the Backflow Prevention Program, please contact the Rome Water and Sewer Division at 706-236-4560. For more information visit www.romega.us.
