Twenty-four years ago Bill and Marsha Brown moved to Forsyth Country with their four children and dreams of living in the country. They moved into a small brick ranch on three acres that they named Providence Farm because they believed God had provided just the home they needed to raise their children. They enjoyed the country life of Forsyth County in the 1980s with ponies, goats, rabbits and chickens – just the lifestyle they wanted for their children’s childhood and memories. Bill commuted to Atlanta for his job, but his family was at home in Cumming. He was active locally as Chairman of the Republican Party, ran for State House, was a Delegate to the State Convention and active in the community that they loved. They even opened Perkits Yogurt shop in Lanier Plaza.
The years have gone by, and three of their four children are established with their own homes in the Cumming community, while the fourth is just one hour away in North Carolina. Bill made a change about 10 years ago from commercial real estate to residential real estate and spends most of his time close to home here in Forsyth Country. His passion is helping people find just the right home for their family and taking a pro-active role in getting homes sold when people are ready to move.
This year, Bill moved his personal office out of the home and bought an office in Vickery, just across from their home at Polo. Bill and Marsha have enjoyed walking their dog, Maggie, and running in the morning in the Vickery neighborhood with its unique charm and diverse choice of housing styles. Then one day, a home that they had watched with special interest as it was being built, was finished and became the showplace for the Better Homes and Gardens Better Living Home – America’s Home. This was no ordinary home, but one outfitted with the latest and greatest in home electronics, kitchen appliances, and efficiency, designed with input from thousands of Better Homes and Gardens readers. They loved the Frank Lloyd Wright style and natural wooded setting for outdoor living. Unfortunately, this home would not be for sale but would be given away to the winner of a drawing by Better Homes and Gardens. In October, ten shaking semi-finalists inserted their key into the door of this wonderful home to see who had won the dream home. Rhonda Baine of Rock Hill, South Carolina held that lucky key.
Expressing a desire to be close to her family, Rhonda decided to put the home on the market and remain in South Carolina. Upon learning it was for sale, Bill and Marsha quickly made an offer to purchase the Better Homes and Gardens Dream Home. Just last week, Bill and Marsha moved into their Dream Home, fully furnished just as it was featured on the cover of the November issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, as well as the Discovery Channel on TV. “This is really an exciting home to live in and to share with our family and friends," commented Bill. "God provided for us again.”
“It’s the perfect ending to a fairytale story”, commented Barbara Warner of Hedgewood Properties. “We at Hedgewood are so honored to have been chosen to build America’s Home and could not be more pleased that that a local family will now make America’s Home, their home.”
