Cathy White, a Gainesville Middle School teacher, received a $1,000 grant on behalf of Youth Service America to help with a local service-learning activity involving seventh grade volunteers in National & Global Youth Service Day (N&GYSD) 2006. Similar activities, scheduled for April 21-23, will take place and include other youth around the world.

N&GYSD is coordinated by Youth Service America, and grants are funded by the State Farm Companies Foundation, the main sponsor of the 18th annual N&GYSD. State Farm® supports service-learning because it combines service to the community with classroom curriculum in a hands-on approach to mastering subject material while fostering civic responsibility.

Agent Ryan Hudson of State Farm presented the grant to Cathy White on Wednesday, March 1 at 1 p.m. in his office, located at 475 Dawsonville Highway, Suite E. Hudson’s office is directly behind Dairy Queen.
