Over the past year, you’ve seen a lot of development activity along Buford Dam Road. The longer-term impact on our communities and lifestyle are being altered by rezoning of land all around us. This rezoning sets a path for commercial and higher density residential buildings that are incompatible with both the land itself and the communities that have been established here. Now, one of the single largest tracts of agricultural zoned property and public recreational facilities, The Lanier Golf Club, is being sold to a developer, who will need to have this approximately 175 acres rezoned to a mixed use classification, allowing a wide range of commercial and high density residential development.
As a result of this potential event, we have formed a group of concerned Forsyth County voters and homeowners, your neighbors, to gather information, support, and funds to PREVENT rezoning, assure that we might PRESERVE our lifestyle and PROTECT property values that attracted us to this part of Forsyth County in the first place. With your support and contributions, we can succeed in maintaining the environment into which we have brought our families and invested for our future.
Below is a brief overview of what information we have gathered that we'd like to share. Our research has included the following:
Historical information about the property
- An understanding of how the political process works in our community
- Laws and Regulations and Procedures as it pertains to rezoning
- Understanding various Rezoning Classifications and their potential affect to our lifestyle and property values.
- Increased traffic density on Buford Dam, Samples, Nuckols and Sanders Roads.
From our findings and early fund-raising activities, the following actions have been put into motion:
- Have Hired Legal Counsel
- Engineering Hydrology Studies to determine whether the Lanier Golf Club property is already serving is best and most appropriate usage – and cannot support development.
- Created an Information WEB Site- www.LanierLifeStyle.com
- On-going talks with County Commissioners
- Communication with various County, State, Federal Officials
- Working with Support Organizations experienced in Land Use and Zoning issues.
- Met with prospective buyers
