The mystery illness that swept Midway Primary School last week has left a 5 year old boy in the hospital in critical condition on a ventilator. Public Health Officials are still keeping a close eye on the situation although they’re not convinced the little boy’s condition and the school’s illness are related.
Signs of a flu outbreak seem to be the cause of the mysterious illness officials say.
According to spokesman Logan Floyd of the Northwest Georgia Public Health Department, the Midway Primary School student was taken to the hospital with respiratory distress and placed on a ventilator.
Flu like symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and fever are the major complaints from sufferers of the sickness that swept the school and cut its population in half.
Even though all signs point to a flu outbreak there have been no conclusive tests to indicate this to be the cause and testing continues.
The condition of the young boy in the hospital is improving, officials say.
