Out of the 400 students that make up Midway Primary School, more than 180 of them were absent Wednesday along with 2 teachers.

Floyd County School Superintendent, Kelly Henson said after 120 students were out sick Tuesday with stomach virus/flu like symptoms, the number of students out Wednesday was to be expected. Henson also stated the bad weather and parents keeping their kids home in an attempt to keep them from contracting the sickness were also contributing factors.

Midway Primary School Principal, Lauren Abrams said the cause of the sickness is still unknown but the school is doing everything they can to keep the germs down. Parents with children who experience symptoms of nausea and fever are encouraged to see a doctor.

Although the cause of the illness is still unknown, Northwest Georgia Public Health spokesman, Logan Boss said it doesn’t seem to be food related nor does it appear to be related to the school’s air system.

Dr. Todd Kelley, Pediatrician at Harbin Clinic who’s also been working with Midway Primary School on the investigation, says the best way to treat viral symptoms is to increase fluid intake to prevent dehydration, get lots of rest, and try to control the fever.
