Frosted Pumpkin Gourmet to be Featured in Southern Living Magazine

Local specialty cake business, the Frosted Pumpkin Gourmet, Inc., bakes up two-feet tall gingerbread men, lavish cakes and more. Their unique story will be covered in the December issue of Southern Living magazine. And they were also honored to be a part of Jezebel magazine's 'relaunch' party at Zoo Atlanta on Saturday night, November 5, where they provided more than 1,000 'exotic' cupcakes...

The Frosted Pumpkin Gourmet, Inc., a premiere specialty cake company -- owned by husband and wife team, Jeff and Karyn Schwerzler -- is located right here in Cumming, Georgia, and has already earned the respect of caterers, bridal consultants and other wedding professionals in both Atlanta and New York.

Known for creating extraordinary cakes and truly tasty holiday treats, along with impeccable customer service, Frosted Pumpkin uses only the finest quality ingredients when making all of their exclusive “from scratch” recipes.

The business offers more than 35 years of combined experience, and their executive pastry chef has been the recipient of 20-plus awards from the American Culinary Federation. She has also been presented the prestigious New York Guild of Chef’s award for professionalism and creativity.

So how did Frosted Pumpkin come to be?

Jeff and Karyn Schwerzler left New York several years ago -- having sold a thriving specialty cake decorating business -- for an opportunity to move south, slow down their hectic pace and start a family. Six years later, now living in Cumming with their two young daughters, Jeff and Karyn have taken their culinary talents one step further with the debut of Frosted Pumpkin Gourmet.

As owners of the Frosted Pumpkin, they design breath-taking wedding cakes for brides (and others celebrating special occasions) all over the Atlanta area, and each holiday season, they create a unique holiday treat loved by all ---a delectable array of edible gingerbread creations, including gingerbread men ranging in size from eight inches to over two feet tall!

"Gingy," their original gingerbread man, is among the adorable and delicious gingerbread treats that the company offers. All of their unique gingerbread goodies are hand-decorated and wrapped, ready for gift giving. And the taste? The specially developed recipe combines shortbread and gingerbread, creating the most perfect taste combination.

So where did that unusual name come from?

While the Schwerzler's business in New York was thriving, there were off-peak times that began in November. Having a talented staff of seven people, Karyn and Jeff met the challenge by creating another product that would help them thrive through the slower months. That's when the line of gingerbread goods was created.

And it was very successful...so much so that they decided to create a new company. While trying to think of a name that would stay with people, as well as get them thinking about the holidays, Jeff explains, "I was listening to a James Taylor song, and one of the lyrics is 'well the frost is on the pumpkin and the hay is in the barn...'. He was singing about the coming of winter, and I thought about edible frosting. And that's how our name came to be."
