Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC) recently announced the four local finalists chosen to compete for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL). The finalists were Scott Edwards in Echocardiography, Detrice Ferrell in Marketing Management, Donna Scott in Business Office Technology, and Trecia Jones-Watts in Practical Nursing.

Launched in 1971, GOAL focuses on excellence in technical education and recognizes students for academic excellence and personal achievement. Twenty-one students were nominated by their instructors to compete at the local level. On Tuesday, February 13, the nominees participated in an interview process with a panel of four judges. The judges rated the students based on their interview performance. The four local GOAL finalists were selected based on a combination of their interview scores, academic grades, and an instructor evaluation. The finalists will be interviewed by a selection committee chosen by the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. One local GOAL winner will be chosen to compete at the state GOAL competition in May. The winner of the state GOAL title will receive the GOAL medallion and the grand prize, a new automobile. The state winner’s local GOAL coordinator and the nominating instructor will each receive a check for $250.
