The Sawnee Artists Association (SAA) is partnering with a new sponsor to bring both young and accomplished artists together in its bi-monthly Featured Artists Exhibit.
The exhibit opens with a special reception on Saturday, July 10 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center in Cumming. Klub Kids, a childcare center in south Forsyth, will sponsor SAA artists Mary Mills and Margaret Cameron and 24 students from the Klub Kids Summer Camp program in the Exhibit.
Klub Kids has a reputation for developing the skills and interests of children. Now, owners Danny and Diane Hansard and Sherry Sagemiller have taken a generous step forward to sponsor SAA’s July/August exhibit and help their students create original work to display.
Mary Mills, a resident of Dawson County and a member of SAA, will display her work alongside the Klub Kids students. Mary began her art career as an illustrator for a line of greeting cards featuring children and animals. Mary now uses pen and ink and watercolors to capture scenes from nature, including wildlife and landscapes.
Margaret Cameron is a special honoree at the Featured Artists Exhibit. Margaret’s studio, Southern Screens, will be featured in the August issue of Southern Living. A selection of her painted screen doors will also be on display at the Center.
Klub Kids is accepting enrollment for children six weeks to twelve years old. In addition to the Summer Camp program, Klub Kids operates four state-funded Pre-K classes and an after-school program. Registered students can even participate in the on-site Just for Kids dance class or Karate classes. Klub Kids serves the Big Creek, Daves Creek, Settles Bridge, Sharon and Chattahoochee Elementary school districts. For more information, please call Klub Kids at 770.889.7452.
SAA, a not-for-profit visual arts group, organized the Featured Artists program in 2002 to encourage young students to learn about art and to provide opportunities to display their work with working artists. SAA is currently seeking artists and sponsors for the 2004-2005 display season. Sponsor donations are tax-deductible and provide art supplies, certificates of achievement and refreshments for exhibit openings.
