Whole Foods Market, the world’s leading natural and organic foods supermarket, was founded in 1980 with the purpose of offering the highest quality, best-tasting foods available while keeping the well-being of the planet and its tenants in mind. The company continues to support the Animal Compassion Foundation to further raise the bar beyond strict animal welfare standards already required by the company.

WHAT:

Whole Foods Market will donate five percent of its global net sales on Tuesday, January 24 to the Animal Compassion Foundation. As an independent, non-profit organization with its own board of directors, the Animal Compassion Foundation provides education and research services to assist and inspire ranchers and meat producers around the world to achieve a higher standard of animal welfare excellence while still maintaining economic viability. The Foundation creates an exchange of best practices for meat producers throughout the world to learn about animal husbandry techniques that fully support the animal’s physical needs, natural behaviors, and well-being.

WHY:

With the increasing industrialization of farm animal production, keeping the welfare of the animals as the top priority has become a lost art. There is no one place where meat producers can go to learn about making their processes more compassionate. Whole Foods Market now has the scale and scope to be able to fund the Animal Compassion Foundation which will be a library of best practices to educate and inspire producers to raise their animals with compassion while still maintaining economic viability.
