Where does out future lie? It rang out loud and clear in the halls of the historic Freight Depot Monday (2.13.06). As the Speakers at the Georgia Rural Development Council spoke loud and clear. The future is in our young people. “We live in the greatest country in the world and we must develop leaders to keep it that way”.
The leadership sponsored by the Fannie Institute, Georgia Academy for Economic Development and the Georgia 4 H Clubs. Over 1000 people were entertained by extremely talented 4 H members in songs, Saxophone playing and a crowd pleasing quartet.
Speakers were welcome by Department of Community Affairs Mike Beatty; Rep Glenn Richardson, Speaker of the House; and Sen. Eric Johnson, President Pro Tempore of the State Senate. Also orchestrating the extremely talented 4-H members was Dr. Bo Ryles Director of 4-H University of Georgia.
The Honorable Governor Sonny Perdue the largest advocate of helping the youth of Georgia step up to the plate to be the future leaders of Georgia and the United States. His message was making every minute of every day productive. His priorities are serving God by being a strong family person, helping others, investing in one’s character, helping young people develop leadership by leading by example.
The concerted effort to make a better Georgia will be by all working together to bring in new industry, with grants being given for agriculture and promoting historic tourism. He stressed the need for educations to help us in the new global economy and his desire to spread Broad band access to rural areas so that information is available for all. Governor Perdue stated, “I would like to see wi-fi areas set up around community areas; jokingly telling the you people present that they can explain what wi-fi is later)” .
Governor’s since of optimism and his desire to leave Georgia in better shape then he found and seeing the young equally energized was very rewarding. The meeting ended by various groups touring the state capital with members of the 4-H.
