Countdown to the General Election 2006-Body

Tuesday, November 7, registered voters will be making their way to the polls to cast their vote for local and state candidates in the General Election.

Due to a recent court decision, a photo ID isn’t required in order to vote however, voters are required to present identification and should consist of any one of the following:

(1) A valid Georgia driver's license;

(2) A valid identification card issued by a branch, department, agency, or entity of the State of Georgia, any other state, or the United States authorized by law to issue personal identification;

(3) A valid United States passport;

(4) A valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the elector and issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the United States government, this state, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state;

(5) A valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the elector and issued by any employer of the elector in the ordinary course of such employers business;

(6) A valid student identification card containing a photograph of the elector from any public or private college, university, or postgraduate technical or professional school located within the State of Georgia;

(7) A valid Georgia license to carry a pistol or revolver;

(8) A valid pilot's license issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or other authorized agency of the United States;

(9) A valid United States military identification card;

(10) A certified copy of the elector's birth certificate;

(11) A valid social security card;

(12) Certified naturalization documentation;

(13) A certified copy of court records showing adoption, name, or sex change;

(14) A current utility bill, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector;

(15) A bank statement, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector;

(16) A government check or paycheck, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address
of the elector; or

(17) A government document, or a legible copy thereof, showing the name and address of the elector. If an elector is unable to produce any of the items of identification listed, he or she shall sign a statement under oath swearing or affirming that he or she is the person identified on the elector's voter certificate.

Ballots will be cast at the following precinct (Polk) locations:
Aragon, Municipal Complex, 2814 Rome Highway;
Antioch, 3460 Morgan Valley Road; Blooming Grove, 3111 Johnson Lake Road;
Browning, 557 Maner Road;
Cedartown, Goodyear Civic Center, 100 Prior Street;
Esom Hill, 1329 Shiloh Road;
Fish Creek, Victory Baptist Church, 15 Hendrix Road;
Lake Creek, 1890 Rome Highway, Cedartown;
Prior Station, New Harmony Baptist Church, 951 Prior Station Road;
Rockmart, Rockmart Community Center, 436 Hogue Avenue;
Youngs, 812 Youngs Farm Road.

The following local candidates will be on the ballot.

County Commission --
District 2: Elmo Carter (R), Frank “Bud” Lott (D), (Open).
District 3 -- Larry Lamar Reynolds (R), Marshelle Thaxton (D), (Open seat.)

County Board of Education:
District 3 -- Jane Holbrooks (D), David Crile (R), (Open seat.)
District 7: Tommy Sanders (D), incumbent; Bobby Dale Bates (R).

Interest has been noted in the following races as local candidates vied for votes.

State House, District 16: Roger Waldrop (R), Rick Crawford (D). (Open seat. Incumbent State Rep. Bill Cummings chose to retire and did not seek re-election).

11th Congressional District, U.S. House of Representatives: Phil Gingrey (R), incumbent; Patrick Samuel Pillion (D).

State Senate District 31: Bill Heath (R), incumbent; Tracy Bennett (D).
